Steenbok is a perfect back-to-basics trophy game to go for on a genuine safari.

An open plains hunt for Steenbok, the orange little Antelope with sharp, spiked horns, is an excellent spot and stalk quarry for the avid bow or rifle hunter.

Their small stature makes it difficult to pick them out from a dusty horizon. They also live and travel fairly independent to one another- when you see one, you won't typically see more outside of breeding season. Steenbok buckle under pressure, either dropping low into brush to hide, or springing to life, making small jumps to escape.

Hunters may notice this behaviour followed by a small break in their escape, pausing to see what is assaulting them like other Antelope species. Don't let this image fool you, when they are not pulling roots from the ground and digesting them, they are constantly on the move, providing a tough target even when the hunter is well in range.

In rival to Africa's “Big 5”, steenbok is a fine plains game to pursue with simple gear and all the traditional tricks to track a spooky, small quarry in thick, wild brush.
