Richard Holmes Safaris

The owner says

RICHARD HOLMES SAFARIS is a fourth generation family business specializing in South African Hunting Safaris with many years of hunting experience. We do only Hunting Safaris and do not have other supplemental jobs or business other than hunting - many other outfitters do hunting safaris only part time and do not own their hunting areas and lodges. We hunt on large areas of land where the game is free to escape hunters as our References will tell you, so please feel free to contact them.
Your hunting is not a shoot, you will work for and earn your animals while having a great hunting experience. "

About

Location: We are situated 60 km (40 miles) north west of Cradock in the Great Karoo and are based in the Malaria-free and Disease Free Eastern Cape Province of South Africa which is a Mecca for hunting Safaris in South Africa. We are located 200 miles / 320 km North of Port Elizabeth ( PE ) , which is our pick up and drop off point.

About your host at Richard Holmes Safaris: Richard Holmes, Owner. Richard Holmes' background and vast experience in the field of hunting along with Marions immense input into our safaris and our very capable, experienced and long serving dedicated PH's and staff are what have made Richard Holmes Safaris a byword among hunters for the success and enjoyment of their South African hunting safaris. We are conservation orientated with vast numbers of established herds of wild game in their natural habitat on large areas of land. This was achieved in over 40 years of reintroducing by buying in many years back, most of the game species which had all but disappeared. Richard Holmes Safaris hunts its 2 own private ranches and many other private properties called concessions but only in the immedaite area of our ranch, all comprising natural, wild and variegated South African veld. Huntable area is over 200,000 acres.

Hunting experience at Richard Holmes Safaris: Most of your hunting will be done on our own property / ranches. Only on some days, hunts are on suitable other privately owned ranches we call concessions. These concession areas are all on private land like ours, but owned by another private person and on our concessions, you or your group are the only hunters there because access is allowed by invitation only and is exclusive, so you won't run into any other hunters - rarely, if another group is hunting there, your group will be far seperate from the other because the ranches are so huge. Our Concessions we hunt are only in the immediate area of our property, max one and a half hours drive to get there and we return to our ranch and lodge after the days hunt. The upper region, around 4000 feet, is called the Karoo, an old San word meaning dry place, which a frost area and is typified by the short stubby, aromatic smelling Karoo Bush, open plains cut by small tree lined seasonal streams, hills, thick bush and mountains. Most of the hunting takes please in this region as it carries the most game. The most common game species here are : Springbok, Blesbuck , Impala, Wildebeests ( black and blue) , Kudu ( the Cape variety which is smaller than the Greater Kudu ), Gemsbuck, Red Hartebeest, Zebra , burchells and Mountain Reedbuck.
