About your host at De Klerk Safaris: Hans and Marié de Klerk, Owners. DE KLERK SAFARIS is owned and operated by Hans and Marié de Klerk. Hans grew up on the family ranches in the Kalahari Desert and started hunting at a very young age. After completing a degree in Business Economics and 2 years of military service he started working in Botswana as a professional hunter. There he gained extensive experience on hunting dangerous game. In 1990 he started his own safari company and in 1992 he married Marié. Marié also grew up on a ranch and after school went to university where she studied a bachelor’s degree in teaching. Marié’s contribution to the success of DEKLERK SAFARIS is fundamental. With her warm friendly personality and world famous meals everybody will feel at home.

Hunting experience at De Klerk Safaris: DE KLERK SAFARIS operate safaris all year round with peak times between March and October (fall to spring). Weather during these times is comfortable with little or no rain. Temperatures range from 60 to 85F (15 to 30 Celsius) during the day and 32 to 60 F (0 to 15 Celsius) at night. We specialize in big game or dangerous game hunts. Hunting dangerous game in Africa safaris are for hunters who have hunted plains game and are pursuing something extra. The thrill of the hunt is what makes hunters go back to basics when trying to outwit game animals in their natural environment. Dangerous game hunting increases the thrill of the hunt to a whole new level – the hunter can easily become the hunted. There is a distinct reason why dangerous game are known as dangerous game, and the reason is simply because elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, Cape buffalo and hippos are dangerous. All six of the aforementioned animals have killed humans since the start of time and will continue to do so until the end of time. This is why Professional Hunters in Africa must have sufficient dangerous game hunting in Africa experience before being allowed to guide hunters on such hunts. Most dangerous game hunts end well for the hunters, but it is on the odd occasion when dangerous animals charge hunters when a cool head and enough gun along with experience is handy to have.
