EXPLORE 3 STALKING ACTIVITIES IN CZECH REPUBLIC AND PLAN YOUR NEXT STALKING TRIP

"Stalking is known for being more than a hunting method, it is the essence of hunting. Stalking requires patience, stamina and good feel for the surroundings- sometimes requiring the hunter to be flat and low, crawling on hands and knees to get closer to the game"

Stalking

Egyptians stalked the Nile buffalo, Scottish hunting parties secretly pursued roe and whitetail deer, and Native Americans crept inch by inch to hunt the herds of buffalo for hundreds and hundreds of years. Stalking is more than a hunting method, it is the essence of hunting. Stalking requires patience, stamina and a good feeling for the surroundings. Sometimes this requires the hunter to be flat and low, crawling on hands and knees to get closer to its aim let’s say a whitetail deer.

Reading signs, or indicators, such as antler rubs, broken branches and ruffled, nested-looking areas of vegetation assists hunters in finding the game by calculating where to cautiously go next. Pursuing most birds, deer (roe, whitetail or sika), buffalo, antelope and big African game species by foot brings the hunter closer to the quarry. Proper stalking methods can make or break a hunt for the hunters. If the hunter is unable to get close enough to the quarry, for a fail-proof line up on their bullseye, then the hunt results to be a  bust.

Likewise, if the hunter moves too hastily and is spotted, there is no telling how long it will take to get another opportunity for that target again. Stalking is a tricky, lifelong skill that takes practice and experience to master. But with patience, the hunter can master the art of stalking and win his dream trophy hunt; which is worth persevering for. Don't practice stalking at home with friends and family- unless you enjoy a black eye! Instead, get out and explore the woods with light feet to get a feel for your next stalk hunt!

For stalking you need a durable lightweight rifle or gun with a scope and that is easy to carry around through thick brushes, uneven terrain. Calibres should have a steady trajectory and depend on the game you are hunting. bipods or shooting sticks allow hunters to increase the steadiness of the shooter and increase the range of a well placed shot. A pair of good binoculars or rangefinder also comes in handy.
