Patagonia River Guides

The owner says

Patagonia River Guides is a full service fly fishing company based in the Andes Mountains. We own and operate high end lodges in the Trevelin/Esquel, Los Alerces National Park and Rio Pico areas. We also have access to the finest private estancias in the San Martin/Junin de los Andes areas. We are more than a group of guides; we are outfitters providing exceptional fly fishing programs along with one of the nicest fly fishing lodges in Argentina. Our fly fishing program is designed not only for anglers who come primarily to fish, but also for discriminating anglers wanting the fishing trip of a lifetime while also enjoying the beauty, culture, people and experiences of Patagonia Argentina. Come join us and let one of the most experienced guide staffs in South America take you to inspiring waters for the ultimate fly fishing adventure!

About

Location: Patagonia River Guides is a Montana based company and operates in Chubut province of Argentina.

About your host at Patagonia River Guides: Rance Rathie, Owner. Rance’s fishing, guiding, and angling experience is second to none. He is one of a handful of third-generation guides from Montana, and was brought up with a rod in his hand.  Rance spent his younger guide years traveling the planet and guiding in numerous countries like Mongolia, the Bahamas, Argentina, and Chile. When on the water, Rance is a predator who mostly enjoys fishing through his client’s rod and sharing Patagonia summer days with them. He is a member of the Simms, Winston Rod, Hatch Reel, and RO Drift Boats pro staff and has always enjoyed sharing his casting skills with guests, guides, and friends.

Fishing experience at Patagonia River Guides: PRG has been offering exceptional expedition-style trips to the Rio Pico region in combination with other PRG programs for over a dozen years. Unlike other locations such as Jurassic Lake, Rio Pico offers a diverse valley in the Andes with more than a dozen productive lakes, each with its own distinct character.  Guests could fish for an entire week never touching the same lake twice.  What’s more, the area also offers not only trophy rainbows, but also brown trout and brook trout.  No other stillwater destination offers the beauty, variety, or productivity of the Rio Pico. Guests may also choose daily between one of several wade fishing adventures for trout averaging sixteen to twenty inches.  It is necessary to walk or hike to the best sections of area streams, but those willing to explore will encounter some of Argentina’s best-kept secrets. Our Rio Pico programs are typically combined with PRG’s Trevelin program and an extended stay of at least 9 nights / 8 days fishing is recommended for the two-area combo trip.  We advise those that are opposed to fishing lakes and those that cannot hike up to two miles to choose other areas where river fishing is more accessible or where there are more float fishing options on rivers. Click here for quick link country guide.
