Crescent Lake Lodge

The owner says

Crescent Lake Lodge is an Alaska Hunting & Fishing Guide Service and Outdoor Recreation Resort. Alaska fishing includes ten species of fish, five salmon and five fresh water species. Alaska hunting includes moose, caribou, brown bear, black bear, wolf, wolverine and dall sheep hunting. Lodge and resort activities include trekking, birding, rafting, river tours, canoeing, kayaking, photo safaris, cross country skiing, snow mobiling, hiking, camping and family resort activities at the lodge.
CRESCENT LAKE LODGE is located about 250 miles west of Anchorage, Alaska on a lake adjacent to the Holitna River. We have hunted in this part of Alaska since 1973. We live out here year round and depend on this area for a living. A limited number of hunters are taken at a time and in any one season. This assures the hunter of having more attention paid to details and more reliable support in the field for re-supply, air transport and emergencies.

About

Your host at Crescent Lake Lodge: Doug Carney, Owner. Crescent Lake Lodge is an Alaskan Hunting & Fishing Guide Service, nestled on the Lake near the Holitna River which is 250 miles west of Anchorage. Along with excellent hunting and fishing trips, we also offer entertaining resort activities like Hiking, Camping, Snow Mobiling, Birding, Photo Safaris, Kayaking, Canoeing and many more. Our occupancy is limited and we allow fixed number of hunters and fisherman to ensure a great Alaskan trip.

Fly-fishing experience at Crescent Lake Lodge: The Holitna River is a remote river system in western interior Alaska. Although this system receives little attention, it supports one of the most productive fisheries in the entire region. The Holitna and its headwater tributaries, the Chukowan and Kogrukluk Rivers and Shotgun Creek, drain the Kuskokwim Mountains, Shotgun Hills and parts of the Nushagak Hills and Taylor Mountains. The Holitna´s largest tributary, the Hoholitna River, drains parts of the Lime Hills, Nushagak Hills, the Door Mountains and Taylor Mountains before emptying into the Holitna about 30 miles above the Holitna´s mouth, which empties into the Kuskokwim River just above the village of Sleetmute. The area is known for its abundant wildlife and beautiful scenery. You will find here all the five species of pacific salmon:

  • Chinook (King) Salmon: mid-June through July. These fish average 20-25 pounds; trophy size is 50 pounds.

  • Sockeye (Red) Salmon: late June through July. Fish average 6-8 pounds; trophy is 12 pounds. Any Sockeye is a trophy on the table.

  • Chum (Dog) Salmon: July through early August, averaging 7-9 pounds; trophy size is 12 pounds.

  • Humpback (Pink) Salmon: mid-July through August, averages 3-5 pounds; trophy size is 7 pounds.

  • Coho (Silver) Salmon: August through September, average size is 7-9 pounds; trophy size is 12 pounds.

Other fresh water species which we will be targeting are:

  • Arctic Char: averages 3-5 pounds; trophy size is 10 pounds. Best in June and September.

  • Dolly Varden: averages 1-2 pounds; trophy size is 3 pounds. Excellent all season.

  • Arctic Grayling: averages 1-2 pounds; trophy size is 3 pounds. Excellent all season.

  • Northern Pike: averages 5-7 pounds; trophy size is 15 pounds. Excellent all season.

  • Sheefish: averages 5-7 pounds; trophy size is 15 pounds. Excellent all season.
